A few words | Sasol New Signatures Chairman

National Chairman, Dr Pieter Binsbergen says a few words as we we kick off with Information Sessions around the country.

“Sasol New Signatures prides itself in being at the forefront of contemporary visual communication and the team have once again brainstormed new and innovative ways to ensure our long lasting success. The ethos of the competition has always been centred on sustainability, nurturing the kindling spirit of young artists and raising their presence to a visual communicative platform that is able to compete with visual art trends globally.

We continue to travel around the country offering Information sessions and Feedback sessions which the team have streamlined in 2017 to become  informal ‘questions and answers’ sessions along with presentations outlining the essence of the competition. We often introspect, interact with the young artists and in this way aim to cater for their needs, but most importantly we listen. This is the essence of the competition. Through these endeavours we aim, in the words of the youth, to “keep it real” and I believe this is the key ingredient to the lasting success of the competition.

As an art academic, artist and lecturer I commend Sasol and the Association of Arts for the continued support and dedication to the visual arts over a period of nearly three decades. Without opportunities of visual empowerment, such as the Sasol New Signatures, visual art and in turn visual communication in South Africa would struggle.

I look forward to seeing the magnitude of talent the competition will uncover in 2017. This is truly an amazing and exciting journey and I urge you all to enjoy the ‘visual arts road trip’ with us”.
