Desperately disciplined

Desperately disciplined is concerned with tensions of varied layers or stages of production which are often present within visual arts production. It specifically focused on juxtaposing digital arts processing with the traditional media of oil painting and with this, corporeal movements (of editing and painting) with absorptive modes of processing (of research and reading). By having a visual game of to an thro between painting and digital animation we are shown moments of the production process that would under usual circumstances remain invisible, such as hidden layers of a photoshop-ed file or underpainting. Tension between visual movement and stiticness are addressed within the animation in which we see the theatrical markmaking process of the animator projected around the reading subject who remains mostly still, absorbed beyond our reach
