Skeumorph is an archaeological term for an object duplicated in a different, suitable material similar in function and form, for documentation purposes. The viewer is confronted by a screen projecting the portraits of Eugene Terreblanche and Julius Malema. The two images morph into one another over a period of time. Changes are so subtle that the viewer needs to pay careful attention to notice the changes taking place in the morphing process from the one portrait into the other. Due to the time period the process takes to transform and the viewer becomes captivated. The strong polarization of two opposing political viewpoints melts into a hybrid identity forming a symbiotic environment in which the one 'feeds' off the controversy of the other. (The one cannot exist without the other.) Both political figures embody the same form and function, but created from substitute materials, as the title 'skeumorph' suggests. The concept and visual images are contemporary and valid due to the continuing media attention these political figures receive.
